HaPPy New YEAR.2010

Well, 2009 came to a close in Lafayette with a lot (I mean a lot) of fireworks. The citizens must spend thousands on rockets and roman candles. Fireworks started at around 7pm and went on way after midnight.

December 6 we had a dusting of snow, then just cold and rainy.

Christmas Eve the weatherman was predicting snow flurries but stated if you blink you'll miss them.

We had Christmas Present opening on Thursday the 30th due to Mathew getting back from off shore. His 2 girls came over and we got to clebrate Christmas before 2010 came.

New Years Eve Rachel,Mathew and the 3 girls set off poppers, confetti shooters and snapers in the garage, but the girls and Mathew went to bed at around 730 and missed the Ball Fall. (Fireworks didn't even wake them).

Rachel went to Mesche's this am to get our New Years Day King Cake ( a king cake is a Louisiana Traditional cake like a donut stuffed with whatever you want (we picked Chocolate) and then iced with purple, green, red, yellow, etc. and mardi gras decorations. We ordered the small cake (said to be for aoubt 6 adults). I weighed the cake when she got home and it
was 6.2 pounds, divy that up to 3 adults and 2 small girls and thats over a pound of cake each. Oh, yes, Rachel got a dozen donuts at Mesche's because you can't smell hot donuts fresh out of the oven and smothered with hot sugary icing and walk out of the store empty handed.

Girls spent the day riding their new bikes (Christmas gifts) on the tennis courts and then went roller skating (early birthday presents). Mathew tooks the 2 oldest to the movies to see The Princess and the Frog. Eucre game tommorrow night.

Again Have a Happy New Year and be prosperous.

THANKSGIVING

We had Thanksgiving the Sunday before due to work schedules. We had turkey, home made mashed potatoes, homemade stuffing and all the trimmings plus pumpkin pie. Mathews mother and brother came and had dinner with us and the girls.

Thanksgiving day we went to Mathews uncles for a family gathering. Mathew was offshore but Rachel and Madeline and I attended. We had smoked turkey, deep fried turkey, and all the trimmings. Got to watch some good horseshoe games and enjoyed the near 70 weather.

December 1, and its cold. In the high 30's in the am and about 55 during the day. The weatherman predicts snow for us in the next 8 days he just hasnt decided with of those days it will be here. Pool is clean and looking great but its too too cold. The hot tub is up and running and putting off a lot of steam into the air, but thats a long cold walk back to the house when you step out of the hot hot water.

Well gotta go Christmas Shopping. On Black Friday I drove Rachel and Madeline to Babys are us at 7 am and Rachel ran in and got M's spinner station. Rachel was in and out in 10 minutes flat and the line to get into Toys are us next door was still long, (only 30 at a time into the store starting at 5 am).

Rachel ran into Kohls and was out in 20 minutes with her purchases.

We all went into Target but the deals we were looking for were gone, check out lines were 30 deep so we left with out a purchase. We were lucky not getting up at 5 but leaving at 7 and getting all we wanted in less than 1 hour (not counting the Target Ordeal).

Hope to post Christmas Photos soon.

The Lonnnggg H O T Summer

Sorry if it seems I took the summer off but with this heat, the pool was calling and it was all I could do to get out of the pool and come home at night.

Let's see- June , on the 25th we had our first rain in 25 days, and this after hours and hours of heat 110 or higher.

July, went to Cocoadrie, down at the end of Louisiana at the Gulf. Didnt see the gulf due to the fingers of land that are in the gulf but did see a few shrimp boats and one lonely dolphin, it was an off shore dolphin because it was big.

Drove back on a road thru the wetlands, about 20 miles of curvy road that was 2 lanes and as twisted as a drunken sailor walks. All the big trees were dead and bleached out so it was creepy but beautiful.

July 4th, went with the inlaws to a family gathering of about 50 people. We brought a Sugartown Watermelon, very very juicy and sweet, needed this in the 115 degree weather. Later we went to friends house to play Eucre ( a fun card game to learn and play).

July was hot and hotter but the pool was great.

Melissa flew down for a few days and got to visit Lafayette and take pictures of Louisiana-the swamp, the buildings and the inhabitants. She took alot of pictures of Rachel and even found time to make a belly cast of Rachels belly.

August 12, 2009 Madeline A. came into the world weighting 9.6 lbs and Rachel was in labor for about 5 hours.

The rest of August was spent spending time with the baby and being in the pool.

Labor Day- Michael and Melissa drove down and spent a week getting to bond with Madeline.

ONE thing more about the summer- Louisiana is the Pelican State but I have yet to see 1 pelican since I've been here for 5 months.

So now it is October and the pool is getting cooled down but still usable.

I hope to update this site weekly and post pictures of Lafayette, the swamp, the gulf, and of course Madeline.

Lafayette ='s Great Weekends

On Sunday, we invited my SIL's mother and a girl friend over for a cookout at our complex. His 2 children wanted to go swimming and cookout. We put our coolers at one of the 6 cabana's at the complex (Each cabana has a ceiling fan, lights, grill and a table for 8.) and hit the pool. After a couple of hours we went to the cabana and had a cookout (burgers, frankfurters, grilled corn, beans and chips). After lunch we waited the 30 minutes and then returned to the pool to finish off the day. The weather was perfect, spotty light clouds, nice breeze from the gulf, and about 88 degrees. Later we walked over to the lake and watched some neighbors fish. Lafayette has great weather, my complex has a great pool, cabanas and fishing lake so it made for a great way to enjoy Sunday with family.
